Mowing the Lawn Properly can make the Difference

Looking for a nice green lawn in front of your house? Details in can make all the difference. Here are some tips to help you out mowing the lawn.

Mowing height and mowing frequencies will determine how healthy and attractive your lawn looks.

Mowing the lawn can look as simple as 123, but it’s actually one of the most regular and important maintenance chore you have to do to keep your yard nice and clean. There are a few things that you can do to maximize the health of it.

First of all, be sure that your lawn mower’s blade are always sharp. By keeping them that way, you’ll be sure your lawn mowers will cut the grass and not tear it off. You can use a blade sharpener to keep them sharp in all times.

One-Third Rule

There is a simple rule to follow and it’s the one-third rule. Always keep in mind that you don’t want to cut more than one-third of the leaf. If you get caught by any occupation or bad weather, it is preferable that you get your lawn back at normal height in two steps.

Mow it higher than usual and a few days later, you’ll be able to get back to your usual height. By doing so, you can maximize the root growth of your grass which is a must when it comes to feeding it with water, fertilizers and minerals found in the soil.

Mowing Height

In most cases, for a residential use, the grass should be kept between 1½ and 3½ inches. You might want to keep your grass in the upper range when the lawn is under stressful condition during summer for example in hot temperatures, shady area or near a tree.

Take a look at the following chart to help you out to understand the different heights according to different species of grass.

Try to avoid mowing the lawn when your grass is wet, you’ll prevent the chances to have an uneven cut.

Don’t forget that you have a nice job of edging and trimming before you start admiring your work. It is as important as mowing the lawn since it gives a nice finishing touch to your lawn.
